Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Intergenerational Preschool?
Intergenerational schools bring people of different generations together (in our case the residents of Rose Villa, the children of Rosebud Preschool, their parents, and our staff) for meaningful, ongoing, enriching activities that promote greater understanding between generations and provide benefits for all involved. Re-integrating children into the lives of older adults leads increases social connectedness, which boosts self-esteem and even executive functioning. Children who participate in intergenerational schools develop increased acceptance of differences that come with aging and demonstrate greater empathy for older adults, and their families often report feeling less worried about older family members and at times even feel prompted to strengthen relationships and communication with elders in their family. At Rosebud we collaborate with Rose Villa staff to create opportunities for meaningful interactions between residents and children on a consistent and deliberate basis.
What is the Reggio Emilia philosophy of education?
Reggio Emilia is an educational approach that was developed in Italy in the mid 1900’s. It is a child-centered approach that works to integrate a child’s interest when considering curriculum topics and prioritizes providing many opportunities for children to express themselves through artistic endeavors. Teachers in this approach are thought of as observers, setting up activities and planning experiences that will provoke learning for children that is developmentally appropriate. Reggio Emilia schools share their learning and classroom experiences with the community by having teachers take photos during activities in the classroom and then posting their documentation in places for community members to see.
Do you accept families who receive financial assistance from the State of Oregon to pay their tuition?
Yes, we do. Rosebud is a listed provider with the Employment Related Day Care (ERDC) program.
What are the group sizes and ratios of the classrooms?
The toddler room has a maximum capacity of 10 children, and it is staffed by two teachers for the required ratio of 1 adult for every 5 children at two years old. The preschool room has a maximum capacity of 16 children, and it is staffed by two teachers exceeding the required ratio of 1 adult for every 10 children at or above three years old.
What is your sick policy?
We understand that it is difficult for a family member to leave or miss work when a child is sick, but to prevent the spread of illness to other students, children who are ill are not able to attend school. It is crucial to keep our teaching staff healthy, as multiple teacher absences strain our ability to operate the school. Health screening questions are a part of the drop-off process each day at Rosebud to ensure our community stays healthy. If a child appears ill at drop-off, the child will not be able to attend school that day. If a child becomes ill during the day, we will call and request the child be picked up as soon as possible. To return to school after sickness, we require a child to be fever-free without the use of medication for 24 hours. Other criteria may apply depending on the specific illness. For more information, please reach out to the Preschool Director.
Do children have to be potty-trained to enroll?
Children do not have to be potty-trained to enter the toddler class; however, children do need to be potty-trained to enter the preschool classroom.
Do you have half-day options?
No, we do not. At Rosebud, we thoughtfully plan the rhythm of each day to give children a diverse and engaging experience. We believe that having all children present for the full day provides for the optimal learning environment for the group.
Do you work with Clackamas ESD to provide early intervention and early childhood special education (EI/ECSE) support for my child if needed?
Yes, we do. If you are currently seeking resources to support the specific needs of your child in Clackamas county, you can fill out a referral form HERE to receive free assistance.
If I start part-time, can I add more days later?
We will always do our best to meet the needs of Rosebud families; however, each class has a capacity that cannot be exceeded, so we may not be able to accommodate every request.
Must children arrive straight away at the start of the school day?
We have a drop window from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. each morning. We understand that life can interrupt our schedule sometimes, and we ask that you communicate with us so that we know when a late drop-off may occur.
